We all are aware of how busy a bride-to-be gets as the wedding day approaches. She not only has to ensure that everything in her trousseau is just the way she wants it to be, but she also needs to be extra careful with her natural beauty.
However, amid all these preparations, her fitness should not take a backseat. So, to help all our pretty bides-to-be, we spoke to some of the fitness experts to give us a few wonderful tips to get in shape before the wedding day. And, here is what they have to say to help you get fitter than ever on your wedding.1.Start early
As soon as your wedding date gets fixed and the preparations start, you should also start an exercise routine to get in shape. Anytime is the right time to exercise as long as you are determined to keep doing it regularly.
Renowned fitness expert, and the Founder and Director of JG's Fitness Centre, Shalini Bhargava, says,
“The sooner you start, the better it is, especially if you are hoping to drop a significant amount of weight. Find something you enjoy doing, as you will be then more likely to keep it up.”
As per Aditya Arora, Fitness Manager at Fitness First,
"Depending on your fitness level, you should exercise three to five days a week to ensure that muscles get sufficient time to recover and rebuild. Also, it would ensure that the body does not hit a plateau very soon, and would keep the fitness regime safe and effective."2.Run for your good health
For brides who do not have time to go to the gym, nothing is as best as running for them to stay fit. Even if you begin with 15-20 minutes per day, it will help you burn a lot of calories. Start with walking, followed by running, and then you can steadily increase your speed. Running is the best calorie burner and an hour of running can burn up to 600 calories. And for those, who do not have time to go out and run, Shalini advises to ‘run on chair’. She says,
“Run on your chair to get a cardio boost. And this way, you will also engage your abs, arms, and legs.”
To do this exercise, you have to simply sit straight on the chair and do the running motion with your legs while moving your arms simultaneously.3.Include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet
Various studies show that omega-3 fatty acids are very effective in reducing the fat, especially when you take them while exercising regularly. It is the anti-inflammatory property of the omega-3 fatty acids, which helps your body to get rid of fat and facilitate the process of muscles building. Fitness expert at Dumbelled.com, Neha Chandna, says,
"Omega-3 fatty acids support the normal healthy skin cell turnover that helps keep acne at bay. You can get them from cold water fish, such as salmon, flaxseed oil, walnuts, sunflower seeds and almonds."
“Omega-3 fatty acids are not just good for your heart, but they also keep your skin and hair healthy. Nuts, flaxseeds and fish are good options.”
Hence, it is suggested by many health and fitness experts to eat omega-3 rich diet to burn fat.4.Exercises that you can do at home
The hectic schedule might leave you with no time to go out to the gym or any other exercise classes. Hence, the experts suggest all soon-to-be brides to exercise at home.
Renowned personal fitness trainer and the founder of Fitnesolution, Kiran Sawhney, suggests,
"At home, one can exercise and shape up with simple things like tubing, thera band or resistance bands, dumbbells, barbells, etc. Do not neglect sculpting exercises and toning up the muscles while aiming for weight loss."
Shalini also suggests following ‘at home’ exercises for our busy brides:The seated leg exercise
- Simply sit straight on a chair and straighten your legs making them parallel to the ground.
- Keep your hands firmly on your thighs for four to five seconds.
- Now, slowly bring your legs to the ground level.
- If you want, then you can raise one of your legs first and then keep moving each leg alternatively.
Repeat the steps 30 times if you are raising both the legs together, and 15 times for each leg if you do it in the other way. For a better understanding of how to do this exercise, here is a video tutorial for you:Standing leg curl
Another exercise suggested by Shalini is the ‘standing leg curl’. To do this exercise, firstly join your knees and lift your left leg backwards. Bring it in a position parallel to the ground. Now, gently kick your left foot backwards aiming for your heel to the top of your thigh and bring it back to the ground.
Now, do the same steps with your right leg and repeat for 15 times. In case your balance is not good enough, then you can take support of a chair or something of similar height. Doing this exercise regularly will tone your legs and make your hamstrings stronger. Watch this video for better understanding:5.Nothing like having water and staying hydrated
Exercising regularly is good to keep you fit and healthy, but it is equally important to keep yourself well-hydrated. Renowned obesity and lifestyle disease consultant, Naini Setalvad, says,
" It is really important to stay hydrated because sometimes, what may look like stubborn fat might be nothing but water retention. As you work out hard to lose weight and also increase your protein intake to build muscle mass, your body could be releasing more toxins. To flush them out of your system, make sure you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day."
“Drinking sufficient water throughout the day is very important for your body, skin and hair. Besides water, also take green tea as it boosts metabolism and makes you feel energetic. Take vegetable juices to detox your body. Also, drink coconut water as it provides the necessary electrolytes.”

Ms. Madhuri Dixit Nene :
Shalini is truly an excellent trainer. She is the perfect combination of tough and soft, She is skilled, thoughtful, sensible, and a pleasure to work with and talk to. She knows just how and when to encourage and when to push, and when to take a step back. Owing to her combination of diverse training methods, individualized exercise programs challenging yet achievable goal setting, a simple to follow diet plan and personal efforts, I am stronger and more flexible, I have better balance and endurance and most importantly, working out has become fun.
Dr. Shri Ram Nene :
Knowledgeable, Competent, Professional and Dedicated are what I would say for Shalini. She is quick in understanding individual goals and hence forth providing advice and varied programs. She uses a holistic approach, incorporating flexibility, strength, posture, balance, endurance along with promoting a healthy eating regime. She is encouraging without being “soft” and a great motivator. Most importantly – she ensures that the moves are done correctly and reinforces how it will benefit . Her professionalism, extensive knowledge and enthusiastic commitment to her work and ultimately her clients, provides the perfect scenario for success and sets foundations for a new healthier lifestyle! Highly recommendable!!!
Dr Dimple Shah :
I joined JG`s gym for ante-natal exercise and probably this was one of the best decision during pregnancy. Anupa, my trainer, exactly knows the regime a pregnant woman needs to follow. Her exercises kept me fresh through the day and my fitness improved post joining the class. She is very attentive and motivated me on days I felt tardy. Her flexibility with timing allowed me to go to gym when I was in comfortable doing exercise - this is a serious plus during pregnancy. Thanks a lot Anupa!

Dr. Priti Modi :
10 years and still going strong! My journey has been of a person who prior to 2006 did anything besides exercise to lose weight, to a person who wants to exercise everyday to kickstart a healthier day, for a healthier life. My sister in law, Reshma pushed me to join (thanks to a free 1-month trial coupon) and the JGs team members ensured that it becomes a part of my life. All the trainers are superb at JGs but my major experience has been with Anupa, Shalini, Sangeeta and Vijendra. Shalini has ensured that her dedication to fitness has rubbed off on all her team members. Each one of them is as dedicated and as strict as her in ensuring that we are regular and give our best while exercising. I always share with my family and friends that I just need to reach the gym, after that the trainers ensure I give my best. JGs has also been hugely instrumental in transforming my son, Nihar, from a chubby kid to a 20 year old with 6 pack abs. Thanks Shalini and team JGs, super job, well done, keep it up.
